Default Videocard lifespan

Was just wondering how long a videocard will last before it bites the dust when you are folding with it 24/7.
All my cards are running stock clocks right now with temps below 70 degrees. I also have 120 mm fans blowing over all the cards. Does overclocking the shaders reduce the lifespan?

You'd be surprised. My video card death count due to folding is at precisely zero, and I've got about 30-40 deployed at any given time.

It really just depends on what temperatures you run them at. The higher the temperature you run them at the slightly lower the lifespan of the graphics card is. If you run it within a reasonable/safe temperature at full load you wont be damaging anything as it was intended to work at that, but when you get into the much higher temperatures thats when you may potentially be shortening the lifespan of your GPU.

The Asus 9800GTX in my Rig1 has been Folding 24/7 with highly clocked shader for over 18 months and finished over 6200 WU's and is still going strong.

YMMV, good luck...

Better to die quick fighting, than idle long in your case!

Good point... they will be obsolete in a year/year and a half anyway. May as well put them to good use.
I was under the impression that running the cards full tilt would significantly shorten their lifespan. Had visions of me having to remortgage my home in 6 months to replace all the toasted hardware...

You'll still have to remortgage your house to pay for your new fah addiction. But the hardware should be fine.

Assuming the card isn't defective in some way that would cause it to fail prematurely, there should be no effective decrease in the lifespan of a video card from folding with it 24/7. Also keep in mind that F@H puts less stress on a video card than gaming does.

as long as you get a solid product, and as said 2 times you kep temps i ncheck, i would give it a safe 2-3 years or longer 24/7.
