I run w/ 2 GPU clients on mine and it doesn't suffer at all. Firefox kills my TPF way more than anything else. I can go from 27min15sec to 30min+ just by browsing on firefox all day. I'll soon have 4 GPU's on one machine 2 on the other. Hopefully TPF doesn't suffer too much.

so the big question is , do I put $ 100 more in ram or $ 100 on a CPU ( the difference between the 750 that will replace my 860 and the 920 )

witch one run cooler at 4ghz, the 860 or the 920 ?

You need at least 6GB of ram. But a 920 won't be any faster than a 860.

With the X58 system you will usually save money on the 920 (usually about $20-$30 less than the 860), and the 6GB of ram (vs 8GB for the P55 setup), but pay more for the motherboard.

In the end for me back at xmas, it was a little cheaper to pick up a basic X58 board (but not much, and I restricted myself to buying locally in Toronto). I also liked that the X58 had more theoretical performance, the boards more mature, and that I even figured three sticks of ram were more likely to be trouble-free than four sticks.

After think about it , I may be better go with the 920, for memory reason, not the 6 and 8 gb things but I really don't like OC with 4 modules. and 4 gb module are way to expensive. I will go with a EVGA. I never get one, and want experiment ( BIOS, OC ) with other board than Gigabyte or Asus.

You can get an 860 for $305 where a 920 DO is $325+. From what I'v read the 860 runs way cooler than the 920 DO or not. And i"d say 8GB of ram (1156) would cost you about $210 where a good 6gb kit is around $150 min.

hummmmmmmmmmmmmm you make me rethinking again. the problem with the 860 is the 4 x 2 Gb ram... I read that may cause problem in OC. all true I will save a lot, I already have a 860 and a board, if I go this direction, I will use the Maximus III in the PC of my son, and replace it with a gigabyte and a e7500, he will never see the difference, he is only 7 , I was planing to use is PC, when he sleep for gaming, but honestly, I try to game, and it's not for me. anyway I still have my other PC with a 4890 if I want too

how about a xeon x3440 2.5 multithreading for 270, and a giga matx board for 120?

or cheap 70 dollar 3pci-e board with 3 gt's(3x70$) and whatever cpu to keep it going?


price/ppd...hmm....
