Thumbs up New NVidia GPU2 And Uniproc Projects.

V.Voelz just released new projects for the Nvidia GPU2 and Uniproccessor clients. According to a post by kiore in This Thread from the F@H forums the GPU WU's (783pts) are Very fast as regards to ppd...

Since I saw it on FAH-Addict : News first I'll just copy thier info posted by KayL;
Quote:
Vincent Voelz, who is certainly very active these days, has put into production a new series of projects for the nVidia GPU2 client: projects 5781 to 5786.

These projects simulate several proteins that have similar amino acid sequences. Curiously, although these sequences differ by only a few residues, their folding is rather different (see "this article" for details). We are interested here in the nature of these sequence dependencies in protein folding, and we try to answer the following questions: in nature, are the folding disruptions local or not? Moreover, are the current simulations using implicit solvent sufficiently accurate to detect this sequence dependency? If so, this will be an interesting starting point for developing tools that will lead us to the computer design of both the structure and dynamics of proteins.

These projects will inaugurate the first server using the v5 server code; the IP address is 171.67.108.21. Each project has 922 atoms, and can therefore still be considered small proteins. The WUs should preferably be returned within 15 days, and no later than 25 days, although most current nVidia GPUs will be able to return units within 24 hours. Each unit reported 783 points.

Each project contains a pun in honour of our good old GROMACS core. Below are some examples.

Quote:
It's up to you to match each sentence to the correct project. Do not hesitate to tell us of any that we missed:

Gromacs Runs One Microsecond At Cannonball Speeds

Growing Monsters And Shrimps Cloning

Giving Russians Opium May Alter Current Situation

Groups of Organic Molecules in Action for Science

Great Red Owns Many Acres of Sand

In other ruminations, will we find in Vincent Voelz a worthy successor to Dan Ensign?
Quote:
Vincent Voelz has just put up a new project for the uniprocessor client: project 6318. This is an extension of projects 6313-6316.

The purpose of this new project is to gather additional data on the SH3 domain folding using new harmonic restraints. You can find more information on this at the previous news, where we announced projects 6313-6316.

This project is distributed by the server at IP address 171.64.65.60, and is available to uniprocessor clients with the larger units (>5 MB) option enabled. Each WU is worth 336 points, and the unit should preferably be returned within 36 days, but no later than 52 days.

Fun fact: this project outputs a pun upon the beginning of unit folding. You will see this line appear in your log:

gbowman from the Pande Group just posted this in the 10101 thread on the F@H forums;

I turned down the weight on these projects so others can advance more rapidly. I have enough data for this one and will put new ones up in the near future.

Greg
So you might get lucky...

Well.... I've got one and it's crap!!!!! project 5781 / 783 points, but PPD is running lower than either the 1888 or dreaded 10101 WUs..... :(

Or maybe softening us up for a big let-down when GPU3 comes out and they 'equilize' us down to Ati levels...
