He doesn't want dual-slot cooling, he can't fit 4 on a board then.

Newegg.ca - Palit NE3TS25NFHD52 GeForce GTS 250 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

if your psu can handle 4 of this it can be a good card for not lot more(dual slot too and need 2x6pin pci-e each card)

Using 2x6pin is not a good thing for a card like that. The power to PPD ratio wouldn't be very good with 4x of those.

Thanks for the suggestions folks (even managed to stay close to being within my price range... ;) ).

2 slot cooling isn't the problem, it's two slot backplates. Those 250s look interesting, but I wouldn't have the 8X aux plugs required.

edit: Next question would be "who the hell is onhop"???? Has anybody ever ordered from them?

if yes, the evga will be perfect(vent hole will be blocked but with your setup it doesnt affect)

Yes, I went back downstairs to look at that afterwards and it would be fine. I'll have to have a second look at those choices now.

I'm concentrating on "open board" cooling options as I feel I'll get better cooling from my "ghetto" fans over top of the four than I'd get from jamming 4 closed coolers together.

edit: Hrmmmmm..... those evga cards are looking like the ticket.... might be a "folding farm bundle" coming up in the buy/sell threads..... ;) (Just going to wait until this week's NCIX sale to ensure that a better deal doesn't come along... ).
