Default Points lost to gaming?

Heh... seems like there's a couple of GPU cycle hogging games out there recently. How much PPD are you sacrificing on the alter of getting your fix? ;)

DA origins is probably sucking up about 3K PPD, and 3 dedicated rosetta cores on my days off. :)

imo folding is something to do on your non use time. Modifying your use of your pc to enable folding doesnt make a whole lot of sense to me. but hey whatever.

Heh.... I do so little real gaming these days that folding is the primary purpose for my rigs. :)

I hardly play COD4 anymore. Its a pain in the ass shutting down the VMware and restarting it when I'm done killing some people. I wish their was a way to just pause it like the GPU client. But on the plus side i'm using my PS3 to fold with to, Its bin months since i'v played a game on it, Its done over 900 WUs so far. So i'm not wasting any GPU cycles. If any thing my love for video games is helping my PPD because my new fav game is F@H, And I can play that with my CPU,GPU and PS3. Folding what a Addiction Keep it up everyone

If you use a proper linux install inside a VM then all you need to do is ctrl-c to stop the client inside the box and then use the up arrow key to bring back the full command when you want it to run again.

Personally my folding is set at 80% of my 4870 and 50% of my CPU ( including HT ) So I can game all my game like TF2 at full res on my 22 inch using the 20% of the video card and the HT core of my CPU that are free. The best compromise out here I have found.

Im runnin vmware workstation, and i can suspend the client, then start it right up where it left off later, not sure if the player can do it though. If my machine was folding 24hours a day fahmon says it should get around 11000 ppd. I suspect im getting around 8000, as when im gaming I pause the gpu client, then exit it, and for the vmware change the affinity from 4 to 2 cores, and keep it running while gaming. The system will then get around 200 fps in cod4 at 1920x1200. Exiting the gpu client is probably not neccesary, though i seem to have a jitter every few minutes with it paused.

When I game I generally only stop my GPU client, so my 4870 stops folding for a little while (not a massive impact in my overall production since I do about 13-14k PPD without it anyway). My CPU folding does take longer as well during gaming, so I probably lose a bunch of points there.

Setting the GPU client to 80% means that it will use up to 80% of one of your CPU cores. It will always use 100% of your GPU and there is currently no way to change that.
