Default Silly idea: 4x folding GPUs in Behemoth?

Hey guys, so Behemoth is sadly lacking graphics at the moment. However, it has 4x PCIe 16 slots, with two a full x16 and two at x4.

Do you guys think i should get 4x 9600 (or greater) GPUs and have 4x running individually and sli two of them when necessary for gaming?

OR

try to get two slightly higher cards in reg sli/folding?

Hmmm....

I think any time you SLI cards it has to be all or nothing. I am not 100% if you can have only some SLI'd.

As for FOlding cards, the GSO's are great if you can get them cheap enough.
The new GT240's are another good option.. Lower Power Requirement, better memory, and more shaders. Looks to be the next best thing for budget folding.

Or, grab yourself 4 GTS250's :)

Lots of options really. But 4X GPU Folding is godly!

lucky bastuge..4 pci-e :D

but yeah throw in anything that folds.....vs someone with 2 slots you got a mountain of choices. then if you get a good deal on a higher end card just trade or keep one of the other cards for spares.

not silly one bit. suffer with a slower folding wise cpu but open up to more slots.....man i shoudve ordered me parts 24hrs later lol

Get two slightly higher cards and SLI/CF them. I'd wait for those Fermi cards, IMO.

If you get slightly higher end cards it'll probably make up for what you'll miss in terms of the two 9600's you wouldn't be putting in there. If it's either/or 2x good cards or 4x midrange, I'd take the two good ones any day. I'm pretty sure sure that if you took 2x 285's (for instance) they'd fold better than 4x 9600's.

If you want/can, buy two higher end cards and then take some mid-range ones (like the 9600) and then stick those in there for when you want to fold along with the two high-end cards. That way, Gaming will the awesome, and the folding will be awesome as the gaming, + 2x 9600's. Or something.

Edit:^^ what he said.

SLI can be enabled while folding (you don't have to disable it).

Any nVidia card is good; the GTS250s are pretty good if you can find deals if you are going for four.

If you might jump on fermi, the get the two GTX 285s as mentioned earlier.

Which is why I suggested the new GT240's when they arrive. Lower Power/Heat due to 40nm Tech vs the GSO's 65nm Tech.

few things to remember tho:
-i dont have lots of moolah to spend on behemoth now
-the pcie slots are spaced directly next to eachother, so anything quad card solution would have to be single slot cards.
-i dont game much on behemoth, games dont use threads... they use clockspeed. lol

Wait for the GT240's then for sure. 80-100 a piece, and they will do you perfectly.
IMO.
