I was prepared for the worst when I bought my first GTX260/216 SC and was extremely surprised at the noise it does NOT make. Sure, you can hear it ramp up when it goes into 3D mode and as the gpu core gets hotter, but its nothing, really. I have three identical rigs, shown in my siggy, sitting within a few feet of one another in one room, and no one can hear them unless they literally walk over to them and listen for it!! Temperatures according to EVGA's utilities stay in the high 50 to mid 60 range, so I don't have anything to complain about. I can't speak for the other higher-up models though. The GTX285 was a little louder but not a lot more. I'm talking about EVGA cards here, no others.

Mine makes a lot of noise, all 3 fans on 100% and the case fan is the worst offender.... it's an 80mm server fan, so 6 or 7000RPM thing.

If you set it on edge and plug it in it flies across the table

They are not chopped off, they are DVI-vga adaptors to simulate a monitor. The end is heat-shrinked tubing, and inside are 3 resistances.
