i found a pic of my "wall of farm", from about 6-7 years ago. i had all the boards run through that monitor on the right you see there, with a powered 4 way KVM switch. i think i used Suse for my folding needs.

When running properly my new(ish) desktop does pretty good, takes up 25% of the overall cpu load wich seems high, so for now no windows SMP on the cpu.

Heads up to anybody running a gpu farm, especially those who've purchased a set of cheap cards with lower end cooling onboard......

Redo your freaking tim/mount!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Finally got around to redoing my ASUS 9600GSO cards (I know it's 6 months late.... :) ). I knew it would make a difference, but I never imagined it'd make a 45c+ difference under load!!!!

My cards don't report temps unless I have the proprietary ASUS software installed so I wasn't being vigilent on the temps.... damn near had a heart attack when I finally loaded it and found the temps were between 100 and 110c under load. Redid the tim/mount and I'm now seeing around 60c under load. That's one hell of a difference for what amounted to a couple of hours worth of work.

Edit..... :)

Guess I jumped the gun a bit on the temps, it only dropped the load temps by about 20c once the full farm was up and running. That said... I've got a couple of fans sitting on top now and I'm running sub-80c temps vice the 110c I was seeing previously (currently running 75c with 4X 548 WUs).

Never thought of that... A couple of cards I purchased recently are running around 80 degrees under load, much hotter than the other similarly clocked cards I have. Thanks for the tip, I'll give that a try.

hey sswilson, just fyi but one of the plugins for rivatuner can read the temperatures off your gso. I don't remember which one it was though.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to give it a shot. As it stands, I'm using EVGA Precision for all of my GPU OC duties these days, but it can't read the ASUS cards. What I did originally was to use both precision for OC & Smartdoctor (asus) for temp monitor... I just got lazy when I threw the second farm together (also had some problems with drivers originally) and never ended up with smartdoctor installed until now.

Still going well now.... as I said, it's reading 75c, but as far as I can tell the smartdoctor only reports the temp of the first GPU no matter which one is set up to be read.

Of course, now I've got to set some time aside to do my EVGA 9800GT cards.... they're currently running around 70 - 75c with a lot more fans on them.... getting a 10 - 20c drop on them would be beneficial as well.
