I did some testing on the 620 when I built it. In terms of SMP client performance it was on par with my Q6600 on full load.

May I ask if that was with stock clock speeds on both chips? And what is the stock clock speed on the 620?

This board clocks excellently! I'm not sure why anyone would think otherwise... I've got my X2 550 unlocked and up to 3.7 in it. I'd recommend it as a great board, but if you're planning to xfire on it, keep in mind only the primary PCI-e is 16x. So Xfire will drop to 8x-8x. That's the biggest bonus of spending the money for the 790FX, full 16x-16x.

As for processors, I would buy an X2 550BE before I'd go near a 620. Although I suppose it depends on what you're doing. But the 550BE (Even as a dual core) will kick the 620 all over the park in all applications except direct cpu intensive stuff like image/video compiling. And even then the 550BE holds it's own. But if you're willing to toss the dice, you could get lucky and unlock your 550BE and turn it in to quad that would look at the 620 and scream: "I am Gozilla! You are Tokyo! Raaawwr!"

anyways that board sucks for tweaking/overclocking. its one of those you pay for what you get for.

good choice for some budget folding.

if your gonna use that as main system + folding i suggest you take a look at the MSI 790FX for $170

I beg to differ. I just picked one of these up and performs amazing. My old board was retardedly expensive for an amd board it didnt clock anything near as nice as mine. 4.2ghz on a phenom 955 without cranking up chipset voltage or my vrm about to pop.

Could an X2 550BE out-fold a X4 620?
I doubt it... unless you're lucky and can unlock 2 more useable cores.
Wasn't worth the risk to me so I just went with the 620.
The pc will be used for some 2d and 3d apps, movies, a few games, internet, and f@h.
I think the 620 was a great choice (great price too).
Guess I'll see for myself in a week or so.

Let us know how it does for folding. I'm Curious to see if it matches my 810 at all.

Here's a pretty good article about AMD and L3 cache if anyone is interested (and hasn't seen it already).
