I'll let pscout answer this more in detail, but your 4000+ is Dual core, right? I think you can run 2 instances of F@H to fully utilize both cores.

That would double your output.

Nah, it's the original '57-derived 4000+; that is, 2400MHz single core San Diego (the original 90w TDP).

Good to see you finally got a WU out!!! Hopefully Gav will see this and give you your folding tag.... :)

Single core A64 crunching is heavily dependant on mem timings especially (1t / 2t).

I found that heavy tweaking of the extended memory timings on my 3700+ got me a couple of seconds in 1M superpi, which translated into better WU production.

Congratz on the 1'st WU!

With a single core the best you can do for optimizations is to:

- not let the gui functions run painting the proteins or screensaver mode since it wastes cycles

- have bigpackets turned on, or whatever it it called in the gui client. The big packets should maximize (but does not guarantee) your chances of getting wu's with bonus points.

- the advmethods flag can also be used which will sometimes increase the chance of getting bonus wu's. Advmethods is the stage new projects usually go through after they have been through beta. Sometimes there are no bonus wu's in advmethods, and sometimes the wu's will error more than normal. With only 1 rig to get samples on it is hard to know which is best at any point in time for maximum points.

For long term folding, running the txt client as a service will also make sure it is always running even if nobody is logged onto the rig, hides the console and avoids any potential conflicts with other open g/l apps. You need to use the ms services manger interface to stop and start it manually, and something like fahmon to monitor progress easily. Stopping/starting can also be done from a bat file.
There are other ways to run it as well.

You can switch to the standard txt 5.04 client without losing work in progress on the gui client - just stop the gui client, and copy the work subdirectory and queue.dat to the new directory you setup for the 5.04 client. The 5.04 client will pick up crunchiing where the 5.03 gui left off.
Don't try to run 2 clients at the same time.

If you have any questions, just ask away

hmmm....i grabbed the SMP console client. and set it to run as a service.

that was a few days ago or more. I grabbed Fahmon just now. it's saying my client is at 8% and it's red (stopped). No wonder why my cpu usage hasn't been at 100% idling.

Project number found for desktop from FAHlog.txt: 2653

it's saying that in the message file.

figured it out.

"Note: SMP does not currently allow running FAH as a service." from the FaH readme

smp wu's have short deadlines .... the 304x/5x quad only ones are 1 day and the others are 3-4 days so it is not uncommon when having setup problems to have them expire.

your would have been assigned to someone else once the preferred deadline is passed.
