Hard drive is not as important as cpu and gpu but if you intend on folding 24/7 or long periods of time, a hard drive that stays cool is a good idea. If it was me I would spend the extra $50 and get a new hard drive.

I just grab whatever HD is kicking around, smaller and slower the better. You're only going to use maybe 2gb of space on it at most.

Well, I used Windows XP simply because it's the easiest to setup.... No dummy plugs, etc.

If you need Windows7 I can give that to you... IRC is probably the easiest for that.
