Your normal work is not usually affected by the GPU working away and you can set the Folding@home app to a low priority so as not to affect your tasks.
I usually pause folding when I'm going to play a game anyways.
...or what badatcards said
lol. yeh, what he said.

Maybie i will try out F@H for a month or 2. From what i have read the GUI based interfase isnt as good as the text one. am i right?
The GPU folding client app is by far the most productive/efficient/powerful.
Next is the PS3 client, then the linux client (even in VMware), then the Windows client. A normal CPU client can't really match the GPU client with a 1/2 decent gpu.

my GPU (GTX 260) is getting 5000-7000PPD,CPU 250-500PPD,PS3 1000PPD. you mentioned drawbacks and preks , running F@H makes your pc run hot so make sure all your fans are turned up in your pc and watch your temps, cost a few bucks a month on hydro, but in the winter it can help heat your house. hardware canucks has had a contests for F@H team members only, I would think they will have more in the future

I'm a lil currious, a PS3 can run it? is it possible to get my 360's to run F@H? And my computer already heats my house. Hook it up to the heating ducts in the winter lol.

The Xbox cannot run F@H as of now. The PS3 has a processor inside that is great at doing certain types of science valued by Stanford's F@H team (not sure which science, but calculations done on the PS3 are not typically done on the gpu).

If you have a PS3, the folding is done in the background of another application called 'Life with Playstation'. It is like a background process that runs when a PS3 user runs the Life w/Playstation program, so many folks fold and don't realize it. There is a sticky on here that shows how to input your folding username into the PS3 so that you get credit for the Wus done on a PS3.
