I know that if you BOINC it gives you the option to do that... 25% so it would crunch for 1 second and then wait 3 seconds....

But as far as I know with F@H is that is happening, something is wrong... your gpu is overheating... problem with the installation, etc... never seen it so I'm not sure. I'd just delete F@H completely (uninstall and delete the folders). Then reinstall and see if it still happens.

Are you Ocing your videocard? and what are the temps on it?Restart your computer and see if it happens right away or it takes a few minutes plus+ to act like this.

Do you know which type of WU your gpu is currently working on? (ie. 511 points, etc). We used to get 420 point WUs that worked like that. Let a couple of WUs complete and see if it continues.

You also have latest drivers, etc.?

Don't remember which WU it was, but some of them start and stop every couple seconds. It doesn't affect your ppd but it does reduce power consumption. I think in between the time its crunching numbers, it's doing error checking of some sort. Not entirely sure about all of this so guess you can hop on over to the Folding Forums and ask there too, couldn't hurt.

I actually find the starting and stopping annoying since I get some insane coil whine when I bump my shaders above stable everyday clocks. Since it's only shaders, you can usually crank it up pretty high but you also run the risk of EUE's. Stock shader clock for my 9600gso is 1375, oc'd is 1625 and folding is 1775. I'm just wondering if other people have this problem too when oc'n. /sry off topic

Mine does that when my SMP isn't set to the same priority as the GPU.

The start and stop behavior is normal for the 472/1888 pt WU's, for some reason it seems more noticable on the GTX+/GTS250 series of cards.

There have been posts about this on the F@H forums like this one, Folding Forum • View topic - GeForce 9800 GTX+ stops and starts ...
