Default 680i = JUNK

My 680i died on me this weekend. The memory controller has popped its last balloon... getting the dreaded 1C code from the LED. Ordered a 780i yesterday and should have it by mid/late week. Oh well. I had to tear my rig down anyway to install the watercooling setup. Be back up folding by the weekend. Didn't want you to think I bailed out after the contest ended...

I have a shiny new XFX 780i mobo sitting here that came DOA. Forgot to RMA it. Probably just needs a BIOS flash, but I was so pissed about being a guinuea pig, I decided to not even try fixing it. My 1st non-Asus board, ever, out of dozens (hundreds?) and it failed to POST. Err... where's the rant thread again?

EVGA = lifetime warranty. RMA'd 680i's are returning 780i's these days, FYI.

Good to know- I'll have to throw my 680i back in to a rig long enough polish off the memory controller too.

Bummer news hearing these hard luck stories about the SLi boards. I'm trying to find a good deal on a 780i atm to house my 3rd 260. I've lost track of all the 680 and 780i rma stories I've come across searching for a decent reliable board. Seems like half the ones I see coming across the B/S/T board are "Just back from RMA, never used".

+1 for Supergrover's suggestion. Try to find the original owner and see if he can assist your rma efforts, if they send you back a 780i that would be quite the savings and a decent upgrade. GL nckid.

I bought the 680i second hand for $55. It lasted less than a month... Want to still be able to run sli and also want three slots for my 2 gts250s and my 8800gt for max ppd folding. Also run physx on the 8800gt. The 780i is a risk, but bought an evga so I'll have the warranty and maybe stepup in the future. I knew the rep of the 680i going in, but thought I'd take a chance. I had a P5Q Pro and 2 hd4830s in xfire before I made the switch and that setup was wonderful. OCed well, ran smoothly, gamed amazingly. Hopefully I will have better luck with my 780i. I am going to strip it down and reapply the tim to everything before I even get started. I also bought a 60mm fan to cool the NB to replace the noisy 40mm that comes with them. Got an empty slot on my fan controller anyway. Might as well run it through there to get the setting in a comfortable noise to coolness area. Anyway, I'll be back up and folding soon enough. Too bad too, I was just getting everything running correctly. The day before it died, I put up 15Kppd folding...
