@ST: Rather get a 9800GTX+ because it's better than both the 4850 and the GTS250 and its still approximately the same price.

Actually what I'd like to/might actually do is trade my 4850 + like $10 - $20 for a GTX+

Sorry for the double-post

@Prof. Dr. Silver - you got an 8600GT currently folding? I got one of those too! Just curious, but what kind of PPD do you get with that?

That's right.

GTS250 is pretty much a 9800GTX+ but only 1 6-pin gpu power connector. Less power consumption too.

Yeah but GTS 250 doesn't perform quite as good as a 9800GTX+ or a 4850. It comes close, but not quite - Except for folding however.

I think it has more headroom though, not 100% I gotta go through the saved reviews of mine to see.

I still think it'd be a better investment :)

Hmmm. In that case, would it be fair to trade a 4850+ cash for a GTX 265? Or would I be able to trade for a GTS 250 straight up?

Hmm I'm no expert in trades of cards Ima...sorry.
Hopefully someone will be able to help on that one.

Right on. No worries, I'll do some more homework and stuff like that =(

I got one more question while I'm at it - it's kind of off topic, but it still pertains to getting 1888pt WU's:

so 1888pt WU"s are only assigned to NV cards, right? Well, I'm building a little folding rig with some spare parts I got (I think I made a thread on this earlier). So far I got the case and everything else except for a motherboard and a PROPER folding GPU (8600GT). I was lookin at the HWC store and saw the 9600GT's for $70, and thought "oh damn I might pick up one or two of those." But then after doing some homework on their projected avg. PPD, I get a lot of reports saying that for folding, the 9600GSO/8800GS rapes the 9600GT because of the extra 32 shaders. Is this true? Does anyone have any benches to this effect?

I'll have to dig up the benches, but generally speaking, the more shaders the nVidia card has, the better.

As for the 9600GSO, it is a great card...I get about 2500PPD on it, and I would get more if I had paired it up with another card.

Also, for the 9600GSO, there are several versions so be careful. The ones with 384MB and 768MB of ram are better folders than the 512MB ones, because they have more shaders. The 384MB is a good deal if you can find them (I paid ~$60 in october)

Here is a link to some benches: Folding Forum • View topic - NVIDIA GPU2 PPD Thread [Preliminary Results]

Legoma666 also has a huge Excel document, that he keeps updated with many benches. Here is a link: ftp://legoman666.dyndns.org:47024/scores_nvidia.zip

If you want to see ATI scores, here: ftp://legoman666.dyndns.org:47024/scores_ati.zip
