Can't find the solution...

Yesterday i installed two new programs and some time later i started hearing a sound from the speakers, every few seconds, something sounding like "thump" or "tom" (not a "ding" or "dung" ) that one hears when Windows or other programs come on when rebooting. So, i checked config for those 2 new programs and eventually for many others, but did not find any solution to this.

It was still doing it this morning and as i was still trying to settle that, the sound suddenly stopped, and soon i heard the GPU fan slowing down a little.

I checked in FahSpy and found that the GPU had just finished processing one of those 511's.

Does anyone know how i can turn off that sound if/when a 511 is processed again?

Would this have to do with the fact that yesterday i increased my cpu oc to 3500MHz?
My temps are all below 55C working Rosetta@Home on 4 cores and GPU temps never go above 65-66C.

Now I'm not exactly sure what it is that you're hearing but I have noticed a sound coming from several different computers when folding with the GPU client. For the most part what I hear is a 5 or 6 second long whine with a pause, then repeated endlessly while folding. The sound seems to change depending on what kind of thing you're folding too.

If that is what you're hearing then I don't have an answer for you.... does anyone else hear this too?

I think that you can turn the sound effects off when folding if that is where the sound comes from

Coil whine from GPU you can't turn that off.

i just found which sound it makes by trying those that are found in Windows Media;

it's called "Windows XP ding", (not "ding").

I checked all the logs in my pc, and none says anything about what's happening.
A few mins. ago a new 511 started and i'm hearing this "Windows XP ding" again, avery 5 to 15 secs.

i don't think it's warning me about some errors, as those WU end with success, so in reality it's not very important,
but i sure would like to know why it's doing this.

i don't have a cell phone...

i just put the gpu on pause, and the ding stopped;
when i start the gpu again, the sound starts...

it all seems very mysterious to me.

I think i will lower the clocks on the gpu and see what happens...

Edit: lowering the clocks on the gpu has no effect.

Finally found it.

Yesterday i oc'd from 3.4 to 3.5; this upped the current load, specially when doing a 511 WU which draws a lot of current.
My UPS is a Belkin, and the load meter used to indicate around 66-68%, in the green, with the oc at 3.4;
Now, with the oc at 3.5, the total load on the UPS has gone up, and when the amperage on the gpu has a spike (up to 105A.),
the load on the Belkin goes up to around 72%, in the yellow, and it warns me about an "impending overload" by ringing the bell. haha!
