I found that GPU folding really beat the crap out of the vid card as far as heat went, and in all honesty still beat up the cpu a certain amount as well.

It's a X1900XT 512mb and yes it creates an insane amount of heat and seems to use the cpu as well.

The SMP beta really seems to be well beyond beta stage (other than a few quirks) and doesn't deserve the stigma often attached to beta releases.

The only issues I've had on two machines folding pretty well 24/7 (other than the semi annoying won't delete old work files) have been hardware stability related.

It's definately ready for prime time.....

Heh.... even with the #s we've been posting over the last few days, we've actually just dropped a spot from 850 - 851..... :)

Won't last long, but it does point out that we won't be able to slack off too much once we get into the top 800 :)

Scratch ... what mobo are you running your quad on? Do you have decent cooling ie. better than stock? You should be able to get it to 3.0 if not more.
I have some experience with them so am happy to help.
For stress testing there is a v 251 and 253 of P95 that will run 4 threads on a quad with just 1 button to push.

maybe i spoke too quick about being able to help much ... all my mobos are intel chipsets.

From the little i have read, that is a pretty good mobo, and as long as you have the latest rev of the board you should get some oc with a quad on it. Rev 1 of the board had issues with quads i think, but evga was offering free upgrades. Some poeple just modded the boards themsselves but i expect most of us would take evga up on their offer. If you bought it recently new it is probably already at the right level.

Also, from my limited reading, oc'ing the 680i mobos takes quite a bit more work to get all the extra settings right.

Unless someone here has some experience with it to help out i suggest trying to finding some threads here or elsewhere on some successful oc's with it.

Despite my lack of help, i am still pretty sure you should be able to get to 3 + with it, but it may take some work.

Think I've found the sweet spot for this E6600.

Got it running @ 3410 w/ DDR2 1066 speeds and it pumping out sub 10m 2609 / 2610 within 20 sec of the E6420 @ 3540.

Memory bandwidth seems to make a huge difference!!!
