... and I still have my E2140 on the sidelines... I'm only folding on my P4 541. Can't wait to see the little C2D potential when overclocked...

with enuf oc it may be able to make smp deadlines ... although with 2 good standard wu's (good = bonus projects like the ribo's) it may produce better than smp on average becuz of the cache size.

I have read 1 or 2 really high oc's on them >>50%, but haven't tracked how they do on average.

Cool!!!!!

That'll add some nice points to the team, although to hear it.... PS3 folders and PC/Mac folders aren't supposed to get along..... :)

I'll be adding a OCed Pentium D820 & a X1900XT next week that will run 24/7.

They are both in the same machine so my question is can I run a folding client on each at the same time?:help:

I am not sure if the best way to run it will be with 1 standard client and 1 gpu client, or with 1 smp client and no gpu. I expect the points will be close.

guessing (ppd is avg estimate, depending on wu's and OC it will vary gpu):
1 standard client ~ 200 ppd
1 gpu client, oc'ed ~ 600 ppd

vs 1 smp client 600-800 ppd.

You can also research here fahinfo.org Folding @ Home PPD Database to see what kindof production you might get. I think my #'s are prolly in the right ballpark.

The power draw and heat production will be substantially higher oc'ing the 820 + folding on an oc'ed 1900xt.

Running smp and gpu on a dual core is often (depending on the wu's) counterproductive, since there is not much of 1 core available to run the gpu client. Total ppd will often be less than running just smp and is guaranteed to be less than running smp and gpu by themselves.

You might want to try both setups:
- make sure you finish each wu! (its bad for the science otherwize)
Use the -oneunit or -pause flags to have the client finish a wu without downloading another. SMP wu's have a 3-4 day deadline.
- don't use the gui 5.03 client with the gpu client, and don't use the gui version of the gpu client.

Since wu mix can vary a bit, you would want to run the gpu+standard client for a week or so. The standard client wu's will take several days. Configure the standard client with bigpackets=yes and -advmethods to get the best chance of bonus wu's. The gpu's wu's when i last folded them were all pretty consistent ppd for a given gpu oc.

I used atitool to oc gpu's when i last folded on one. The gpu performance is pretty much independant of the 820 oc. So to conserve power and reduce heat a bit, you could also try running the 820 at it lowest stable volts and fsb. reducing the fsb will only impact the standard client which is a relatively small producer anyway.

On the 820 oc, there is always a sweet spot for the cpu oc where it doesn't take a lot of cpu volts to get a decent fsb oc. Once you go above it, power draw will increase ~ exponentially while fsb increases only linearly at best.
Non folding users wouldn't notice it much, but running a rig at 100% 724 you will. This is very noticable on the smithfields 800D's.
If you have a ups or power meter, (eg kill-a-watt) you can easily measure the difference.
