The issue is that VMWare isn't initially set to a very low priority like the F@H SMP client. Thus it doesn't step down to other programs quite the same way as the SMP client. I myself have just learned to put up with the bit of chop, as its fairly hard to notice on my OC'ed e8500. I even game with it still running, I just made sure to set the Priority changer program to boost the specific game to above that of the VMWare utility. It's the same reason I boost the priority on the GPU clients manually, as otherwise the VMWare client would choke out what little CPU usage the nVidia cards require.

It's more noticable on my Q9450 as there are 2 VMWare clients going, and it isn't OC'ed. So whenever I use it for HTPC uses, I get some fairly noticable lag. Though again, compared to the IBM 333 MHZ computer running windows 98 that I grew up with its comparitively nothing. So again, I just learned to live with it.

As for tracking the folding progress, did you point FahMon at "xxx.xxx.xx.xx\C\etc\folding\1\"? Also, I believe you need to check 'client is a virtual machine' when setting it up to monitor. Did you do this as well?

What are you using to monitor the vmware machine? You need to use the latest Fahmon (and check the virtual machine check box), and point to the IP address of the virtual machine.
I'm using the latest FahMon on all my computers. I could monitor the work fine on her rig, but on my rig it can't find the data. I was using the "fold-XXXX" method to track my progress since the IP address of the VMware client changes a lot.

Anyways, my sister can't live with the trouble of minimizing the client to system tray, and the fact that it's causing her to lag doesn't help either. I went back to the Windows client again.

Oh, the Windows minimizer program that can be found a couple pages earlier expires in 60 days. An alternative to that program is needed for those who need to force minimize the VMware client to systray.

I finally got the Notfred client running the way I want it. However, is there a way to track the progress of the Notfred client on the AMD X2 rig via my Intel E7200 rig?

Do you have it set up to read the progress through Fahmon on the AMD X2? If so its the exact same address. Remember it simply appears as a destination on your network, even if it is virtual. Any computer on your network can access it.

FahMon on the AMD X2 computer can track it just fine. None of the other computers can track it or even access it by typing the IP address of the Notfred client in the browser, run box, nothing. They're all in the same workgroup though, so it's weird why it doesn't work.

I asked over at the EVGA forums, and they said that it's cus it's a diskless client, so only the AMD X2 computer can track it.

I've read through the replies to the EVGA thread in question, and its not quite what they said. He only said it won't appear as an IP address (but as a name) to the E7200's Fahmon, though it is still accessible. I can't honestly remember if that's how my Q9450 is set up, but when I get home I'll post up the address that I use to monitor my Q9450 on a different computer. At that time, I'll also see if I can post up a little guide on getting it to recognize it.

I know its possible though as I'm currently doing it at home.

Really? Cus I've tried accessing the VMware client through all my other computers in my house, and even though they're in the same Workgroup it says that it can't locate the network path.

The address for my Q9450 on my Fahmon on a seperate computer is:

\\192.168.1.xxx\c\etc\folding\1\

If this isn't working, its a problem with your network settings. I can take a screenie to prove I'm not pulling your leg. Make sure you check 'Client is on a Virtual Machine'.

The xxx is dependent on the specific IP address.

Me? I'm using Vista x64. Being that Geo's mentioning workgroup I assume he's trying to network in XP. Something I despised with a passion.
