The stock cooling with about 3 extra fans blowing directly onto it that I getto-rigged. I know it's not that great, but hey, whatever, only temporary till I get either a Vendetta II with an i7 bracket, or just a TRUE 120 or TRUE 1366.

My memory is currently at 1.7v, I don't know why it won't let me set it down to stock 1.65V. I'll go test out what you said right now, check back in about 15 mins

EDIT: The cores on my i7 hover around 70C stock-clocked at 100% load (while folding) I'm unsure whether to continue with the overclock or suspend the overclock until I find a more viable cooling solution. Anyone got a used cooler with an i7 bracket they can spare? =D

I have an available true with the 1366 bracket... but running your ram at 1.7V is unnescesary. 1.65V should be enough

Here's an old bios template of mine. You might want to start here and we can help you with the overclock.

As always, your chip and board will react differently, so this is just a bare minimum starting point. Get yourself a copy of LinX

Monitor your temps with RealTemp or CoreTemp (or your program of choice). Use LinX for 5 runs to test your settings with maximum memory usage (just hit the button). If it passes LinX, then you can bump the bclk (CPU Host Frequency) by 5 and try again. Once you get to a comfortable level, run LinX for 25 passes.

Remember, if you raise the bclk too high, you'll need to lower the RAM ratio from 2:10 to 2:8 (don't worry about what it says in bios, multiply the bclk by the second number in the ratio)

@3.0Charlie - How much? I'll consider taking it off you hands =D. I didn't set the RAM to 1.7, I'd actually prefer it to be at 1.65V.

@Zlojack - Ty for the BIOS template, I'm gonna go through with this OC and see what temps are like. I got Core Temp going and it hovers around 70C at 100% load at stock, but meh I'll just shut everything down if it overheats...

Finally gave this a try.
Got two VMs running on two cores each.
Tried installing VMWare player on my Q9300/Win7 rig and it doesn't seem to want to boot anymore :|
There goes 5K PPD if I can't figure it out before I have to sleep lol

EDIT: Looks like vmware player is broken in Win7 build 7077 x64, but working fine on build 7000.

I've never had any luck with the Windoze SMP clients, so I think I'll give this a go since the Nivida drivers don't eat up CPU time in XP anymore.

Hmm, that decreases my PPD. My GPU client is now taking 6x longer per frame with this running, although everything shows that the GPU client isn't using any CPU time (taskman and Process Explorer)

Set the Priority of the GPU .exe to Below Normal, and make sure the CPU .exe is set to Low.

No go, if I try running 2 clients the thing lags out to the point it's not even usable. I'll try it on a real PC after work.

The lag usually means your gpu was lucky (not) enought to get one of the 511pt WU's. Any other WU rarely causes a lot of lag.

What type of rig are you trying to run them on. Sometimes setting the SMP client to use slightly less cpu will help, I usually set mine for 98% but that's in vista...
