Wink

EVGA has always had great promo's for those that fold them. Regardless I'll still fold/crunch for HWC, you can't bribe me to play for the other team.

Personally, I think this totally defeats the purpose of Folding and replaces it with greed.

Well said Chilly.
Ouch thier top producer does more by himself than our whole team combined in a day lol.
At least here everyone has a shot of ranking up without robbing a bank or selling a kidney.
That's a really great incentive EVGA has put together and I've noticed most of the top 20 teams have similar contests, givaways, ect.
whatever helps fill the seats I say. EVGA sure seems to have great community involvement.

Greed? How so? All I see is EVGA proving a great incentive for people to fold. If it gets more people folding, then I'm all for it. In the end, discounts or not, its still science that ultimately benefits.

I don't see this as greed. It COULD be, but in my opinion it's not. It's just like a little payback like "thank you for donating your computer's time for running F@H for EVGA. Here's a little payback to show our thanks for your support to F@H and to EVGA."

If you want to expand on this, look at how the government of Ontario is doing with the HST. Hooray for more taxes. But in return for paying more taxes, we "get" cheaper products cus manufacturing these products would be cheaper. Did that make sense? Chilly and other Ontarians should know what I'm trying to say...

Tell me again why people should need an "incentive" to Fold and I will happily retract my greed statement.

Same reason there's the points system, there would be only half as many folders(if not less) without it. Its human nature, people always want something in return, doesn't matter that points are worthless, there something.

EVGA is offering something better than points, nothing wrong with that, its not like their making any profit off of it(I'd guess).

Some people are not aware of folding and its benefits. Some others know about it, but are too lazy to download, install, and run the program.

Some companies start promotions to bring more awareness on folding, similar like HardwareCanucks giving extra entries for sweepstakes if you're a folder. They're incentives for a good cause. However, in this case, EVGA is not giving away something free, but more of a store credit (EVGA bucks). So it's kind of in the grey area: they're doing something good, but also try to somehow make money (or get more customers) from it.

Does the end justify the means in this case?

I am folding for science and also for a bit of the 'competition" aspect of folding teams. Keeps it interesting for me.
