Default Wanted - Folding Farm Motherboard

So I am considering putting together a dedicated folding farm.

To do that I would like a motherboard that offeres 3-4 PCI-e slots that can house multiple GPUs, Lets say 8800 GTS 512 (3-4 of them).

Now the system will be primarily for folding and maybe web access. In any case what mother boards are available that can do this. Preferably one that takes DDR2 PC-8500 Crucial Ballitix ram as I currently have 4 gigs of it sitting here collecting dust.

Of course I would also need a proc and PSU that could handle the system.

I do not need high end gear, just gear that will do the job and is very affordable. Yes used is fine.

If there is something in a 939 board thats cool to, I could always transfer rig #2 and save a few bucks.

Presuming you don't want to go X58 the current favorite M/B among Farmers is the MSI K9A2 Platinum because it can take four double slot GPU's. I know nothing about AMD chips so I don't know if it would fit your's. Canadian Prices: MSI Computer - MSI K9A2 Platinum Motherboard - AMD790FX, Socket AM2+, ATX,... - K9A2PLATINUM

To run four double slot cards you would also need a case with 8 slots in the back which limits the choice. You would also want to make sure it has lots of cooling as a multi-gpu setup can generate a lot of heat.

If you decide to go with just three cards there are lots of good ones available...

Three is much more realistic and easier to do, just try and make sure the cards are similiar to avoid conflicts like the shader bug.

And definitely use a Quad. And it should no problem going for used parts sold here, plenty of choice, and don't forget to buy the correct PSU.

You don't have to limit yourself to 8800GTS 512's, both the 9800GTX and GTX+ have the same number of shaders as the GTS and might be easier to find...

NCIX.com - Buy EVGA E-GEFORCE 9800GTX+ SC 756MHZ 512MB 2.24GHZ 256BIT DDR3 Dual DVI-I HDCP HDTV Out Video Card - 512-P3-N884-AR In Canada.,.. $189.99 after $20 MIR.

Looks like I have a pair of 8800 GTS 512 on hold for me. Just awaiting confirmation.
