However when I went to fire up my SMP client I am getting errors. I really dont want to delete folders and start over as I was already at 45% after 15hrs of crunching...

It refuses to connect and suggest I run install.bat again, when I do that I get

sock error: generic socket failure, error stack:
MPIDU_Sock_post_connect(1228): unable to connect to "my computer" on port 8676
, exhausted all endpoints (errno -1)
MPIDU_Sock_post_connect(1228): unable to connect to "my computer" on port 8676
, exhausted all endpoints (errno -1)
, no connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it (errno 10061)
Press any key to continue . . .

C:\fah>
I've had that happen before , unfortunately I can't remember for sure how I fixed it. IIR it's a permissions issue with vista usually to do with the shortcut.

How are you trying to start the SMP ?. Is it a shortcut on the desktop and how did you set it up. Did you try right-clicking and running as administrator.

The way I have it set-up is to make a shortcut in the Fah folder and then use the send to Desktop (create shortcut) option to create the shortcut on the desktop.

That is what I did too.

May uninstall and start all over again.

OK then,

Well i have no idea what went wrong with my SMP client but I am back to crunching with a fresh install.

really sucks loosing 15hrs of work.

It is possible that my mild OC was not stable and corrupted something because it ended up crashing during gaming.

Think I need to offer SSWilson a place to stay when he come to halifax for a weekend in the not so distant future so he can properly OC my rig. Name your price Steve, since you tip the glass, my home made berr id of no temptation for you but I am certain we can come up with something. Food? Whats your favorite food?

I am willing to bribe any competent overclocker to visit me for a weekend and tweek my rig for peak performance!!!

Highlyh possible that the oc borked your SMP Client.

As for oc'ing your E8400 using a DQ6, that should be relatively easy... the max Vcore I went with those chips was 1.45V. Once you pass 450FSB, raise the Vmch (NB) and VFSB to +0.3V. Make sure you have proper cooling for the board. Leave the ram to stock using the multis.

And make sure to test using OCCT prior to running the SMP Client again.
