In the meantime I will leave it at defaults and try to climb up the ladder a bit. Hmmm now I should employ a CPU client.

Should I go to Rosetta for the CPU folding or keep it all with F@H?
As 3.0charlie suggested earlier the amd would struggle with F@H, you could use it for Rosetta, the E8400 would be good for SMP F@H. If you decide to go SMP with the E8400 make sure you get the 6.23 drop in exe. from the bottom of the download page, it handles the EUE recovery much better. Heres the link http://www.stanford.edu/~kasson/fold...-Win32-x86.exe, just replace the 6.22 exe. with it.
Good Luck...

Edit/ Oops beaten to it on this one...

Well I am well on my way and expect to make my 1st big milestone of 10 000pts by Wednesday. After just over 24hrs I am over 4000pts and over 10 WU's and loving it.

Question:

I am a bit at a loss trying to understand our team point standings. I realize that different projects have different values but why is it our team standings show MPG for example with 26 WU done but no score? How could I have catapulted over so many team members that have more WU's than I do?

Moving along...

I now have Rosetta running on Rig 1 and I am about to set it up on Rig 2.

I am at the point that I have to reboot but my F@H project is 75% done. If I reboot will I loose all that crunching?

<<UPDATE>> Just answered my own question. I rebooted to get Rosetta online and F@H picked up where it left off. Whew. No crunching time lost. Good to know!

So I am now effectively running F@H Console and Rosetta@home on Rig 2, and, I have Rossetta@home on Rig 1.

Kinda feels good knowing we are doing something other than wasting countless hours on the computer surfing and gaming. OK well not really a waste of time but this is much more productive.

If you need to reboot again it's best to shut down the F@H console client using CTRL C, it's a much safer method.
As far as the charts go, alot of the standard CPU and/or older WU's are worth alot less points than the newer GPU and SMP clients. It used to take alot more time to amass alot of points, ask some of the Folders that have been doing it for a while like 3.0charlie and sswilson. One reason you see some Folders with WU's and no points is because they switched over from another team. When you switch teams your points stay with the team you earned them with.
Keep Folding...

Well I am so excited I could just fold over in joy. I hit my first big milestone an entire day earlier than expected. I have reached 10 000 pts and have only been folding since the weekend.

Whoot Whoot!!

Sorry, don't mean to blow my own horn. I am just happy.

I take it your single sided ballistix are behaving nice, or did you have to pick up a different set?

Those Ballistix are now out of my Rig. Going to sell them. I am now running 8 Gig of OCZ Fatal1ty PC28500 and have not had a blue screen since.

The Ballistix just did not like my mobo I guess.

Ok so my machine seems to be doing well, but after reading posts on PPD some other mebers are getting now I feel I need to go further. Right now hovering at about 5400-5900 ppd on my single 8800gts oc, but now I feel perhaps a new card or two is what I need to do.

I will ask for 2 reccomendations (at least), using my existing x38-dq6 I currently have a single SLI card. My board supports x-fire. I know that folding does not look at this but I am also considering gaming in my decision.

#1 - Budget route - Adding a second card to my existing set up eliminating the crossfire option for gaming:
Does it matter if the card is the same, ie. does it have to be an 8800gts oc 512m, or can I slap in a higher performing card in my other x16 slot?
Can a mobo run a Nvidia card in one slot and a ATI card in the other without conflicts?
If I add a second card what is the best for folding with this setup?

#2 - Full upgrade, Harnessing the full power replacing my current card with 1 or 2 new GPUs running indipendantly or in x-fire (when gaming) to really bring up my PPD.
What is the ultimate card setup for today?
OK not likely to be able to afford the one above so whats the best bang for the buck?
I really whant to maximise full potential of all my comouting need so I will capture my Mobos X-fire, What card combo should I go with?

If I went with replacing my current 8800gts oc, although it would be bottlenecked in my other Rig for most applications, would it still be a good performer if I replaced my x1950xt on my AMD 3500+ system since the f@H does not really use CPU in its calculations?

Welcome to the world of Folding and the neverending quest for more PPD...
To answer your questions;

1) You could add a higher performing second card, but might get hit with the 'Shader Bug' where cards with different # of shaders cause the faster card to perform at the level of the slower card. The 2xx series sometimes don't like to play nice with other cards. You Can Not mix Ati and Nvidia cards at least for Folding. Safest option is another similiar card.

2) Go with the best Nvidia GPU you can afford, The fastest ATI card, 4870, tops out at ~4500ppd and will get you less PPD then you get from the card you have now.
Best card is the GTX 285, best upgrade bang/buck is probably a GTX260-216.

3) Your 8800gts would be fine in your second rig and would be a nice upgrade...

If you could get a new Nvidia GPU for your main rig and drop the 8800gts in the second rig you would have a nice farm started and would still be able to drop a second card in the main rig later on. Sorry for writing a book, hope this helps...
