E6420 fold? I recently got a free mobo, (P35-DS3R) and I had the chip laying around. Do you think it can do much? Or will it generate too much heat and take up too much power?

I ran one until it fried (water cooling leak). They do fairly well due to the extra cache.

I would definitely try BOINC, instead of F@H on this chip.

Okay, but will stock cooling (for 45nm) work? Thats what I have on it right now, but the idle temps are around 25.

Keep a close eye on those temps.

You mean one of those "slim" heatsinks that came stock with the E8400? If so, it MAY work, but I'd keep a DAM close eye on the temps.

Yeah, thats the one I'm talking about. But so far, it seems to be doing okay, maxing out at around 50.

I might put it under water though, to see how far I can OC this..

Sounds like it should be okay then.. I'd still keep eye on it regardless. What happened to your E8400(your signature)? Did I miss the thread?

No, you didn't miss a thread, but I probably should of posted one..

But yeah, I was playing around with a friend of mine with some DI, and we were using his E2180, and we got it pretty far. Since we then had experience, we put in my E8400 chip, again, we got it pretty far, but this time, condensation caused water to get into the socket, frying the chip and the board.

Lesson learned. Use better insulation.. Electrical tape doesn't work well.
