A question, and perhaps not the right place to put this... But, im looking to start folding and I was wondering do you just kinda join, or ask... Or what? Thanks! Looking to have my PS3, laptop(G73JH) and desktop doing it, but we'll see if my power bill bites me in the ass.

Thanks, another Calgarian I see! Was quite a fan of that isopropyl cooled righ you where building btw

Also wondering can it utilize 2 separate GPU's, because i have a 450 for physx, and a 480 for a powehouse, but could I run the GPU based version on each card?

Also any info on how my powerbill will take it? lol

Well shit, GPU2 dont support a 5870 mobile... Gotta wait for my ram for my desktop, then i'll have that running I guess!

Heh thanks ! , thats a work in progress again.

Your quad core will run 'smp' folding quite nicely , each video card will fold with it's own client as well.

Don't fold with the laptop.

The ps3 will do ~900 ish "Points" per day.

Your desktop will do 40,000 ish PPD I'm guessin.

edit : Your power bill will go up.Thats the 'donation' part.

Haha... why no laptop, a i7 720 mobile aint to bad, nor a 5870 mobile... (Curse you ATI, I want a 480 mobile...)

How much of a powerbill hit? Cause if im paying oodles more its not gonna be a 24/7 thing

40,000 sounds... Impressive, but what do I know? lol

Im imagining the 450 wont do much lol, its a pathetic card, but for physx it does the trick.

God id give my left testicle to get a 970 from retail edge lol, thatd probably do a wee bit more!

Laptops don't generally handle the 100% load that folding requires well...The get very hot.

---

I don't run any of your hardware so I don't know , but there are HWC'rs here that do , I'm sure they will chime in.

Well far as I know the G73JH has some of the best cooling in laptops, but being that GPU2 doesnt even support the 5870 mobility, its no biggy!

Hey Toxic;
Your 920@4.0 should get you 25-30K PPD (which is good). The 450 around 7-9k PPD, and the 480 ~13k. It all depends on the work units you happen to download (which changes all the time), and the competing resources in your computer.

As for the laptop, I am not sure but I generally discourage it since the heat will degrade your system. A desktop setup is much more robust in that regard.

As for details on how to setup, check out the starter's guide and post a new thread with any specific questions.

Welcome to the team!
