Well I was hoping to get my folding on for the team today with my system but was having problems getting VMware to work. I followed the instructions but still no go at the moment. Once I do, I'll get my GPU's going as well. It will be nice to see what the i7 @4.5 will do with the 4870x2 too.

Hell maybe I'll even get my Q6600@3.4 and 8800GTX HTPC folding, and my Core 2 Duo w/8600GT laptop in the mix to help out as well.

I wouldn't fold with a laptop due to heat issues.

Your GPUs will get you easier and more PPD typically than the vmware clients. I am not sure what that 4870X2 is capable of though (ATI folding is not as good as nVidia). When new folders start, I typically encourage them to start with GPU folding first, as its easier than vmware. However, your 4.5GHZ i7 is a beast and will get you great CPU points.

Post up a thread about your vmware issues and perhaps folks can help you get running.

Welcome to the team!

Thanks for the advice. My laptop is well cooled so no heat issues to be worried with, however, I'll probably just stick with the HTPC and main PC.

I was going to post something with VMware with a screenshot on what I'm doing wrong, but at work right now. I'll try again when I get home, and if I can't get it working, I will post something. Basically I can get the folding program to run under VMware, but what I see on the screenshot from the "How to" for the IP address etc, I dont see it at all, just getting a screen saying it setting up USB ports and other things listed.

Then it's almost ready to fold. Once the USBs are recognized, the folding starts when you see the "login" prompt.

Oh crap, then I guess I was being a little impatient then......I let it sit there for 5 mins and it wasn't doing anything. How long does it take to set up?

From the moment you start the client using VMware? About 20 seconds. Again, once you see the Login prompt, it's folding.

edit. the IP address is shown right before the USB and Login prompts.

Well still sounds like something is wrong if its only 20 seconds from start client using VMware. I'll have a screenshot later tonight to show what I have. There was no IP address whatsoever and you can't scroll up either to see.
Normally I'm not this confused, but folding makes me feel like a R tard setting it up. I think its because of all these guides out there to set a good folding system up.

Hey all, I just joined up with my beast of a laptop from 2 years ago. I figured a Canadian team was a good place to start. My folding ID is the same as my forum ID.
