Thanks- i've done that already (set it to 'slightly higher' and cpu slider to the right). I'm almost positive that the pausing is occurring whether or not the viewer is open- I just used the viewer to confirm what I thought was happening. I reinstalled the client a couple of times tonight, but no improvment. I'm wondering if it's not something that I've done in the Nvidia control panel that's screwing it up. Man I seem to have back luck with folding :-)

To me it looks like your card is running in some sort of power saver mode, a 285 shouldn't be taking ~15 min's a step, my GTX+'s take less than 4 on a 5903 WU.

You are not the only one having bad luck, there seems to be a Folding Bug going around...

When i woke up a short time ago i checked what was going on with the f@h client. It was working on a 5903 WU, and the time per step was about 15 mins .
Maybe 30 mins later the time per step changed to around 3.5 mins.; so i guess it's one of those variables that come with those WU's.

The temps changed too, from 48C to 60C (room is a bit cold at 17C).

Since yesterday i've been getting those Fahcore 14 WU's most of the time.

By the way, i formerly had to run the GTX's fan at 80% all the time so it would not get too hot working some WU's, and it was starting to get on my nerves, so a few days ago i programmed RivaTuner to adjust fan speeds according to core temp. It works very well.

With those WU running on Fahcore 14, fan speed now is 60% most of the time, and a relief. The singing coils don't bother me though.

Have a good FolDay all!

Hey guys;

Just re-installed FaH and deleted the appdata folders so start out new. Both clients downloaded FahCore_11.exe . I thought FahCore_14.exe was the latest? I do have the -advmethods flag set to both as well. Seems to be folding fine (both working on Project 5773, 768 point WU).

Here is a snippet from the log of one:

Launch directory: C:\Users\Christopher\AppData\Roaming\Folding@home-gpu
Arguments: -gpu 0 -advmethods

[00:07:18] + 10240 bytes downloaded
[00:07:18] + 20480 bytes downloaded

The only difference between the two are the machine IDs and launch directory.

Edit #1: Seems these projects are new:

Quote:
Projects 5773-5780 are being released today on the NVidia GPU clients. These have the same protocol, and about the same number of atoms (it's a single-point mutant) as the Protein L projects 5757-5764. The main difference is that the WUs are twice as long (40 ns instead of 20 ns) and thus are twice the points. These run about a half a day on our benchmark machines (ATI). Your results may vary
Edit #2: After this WU was submitted, FaH downloaded the new core and project. Am I right that it wanted to go through a non-beta project before working on an -advmethods project (on a new FaH install?)

I would think that FahCore_11 is still the automatic/default core with _14 being downloaded as needed. Supposedly 5900,5902, and 5903 have been released to the general public and aren't just -advmethod projects anymore, we were the guinea pigs.

It looks like Stanford has been busy, more new WU's so soon. Looks like they are just doubled up 384 pointers, which is good...

Holy snap almost 300k today! and to think I was playing stupid ra3 uprising today when I could have snuck in a extra 1680pts. I gave up on the SMP client once and for all today. It really cranks my power consumption up and when those 2400 pointers fail at 93% after 34 hours I just said f'it! I'd probably have more determination if I had a quad but it's just alot of work for a lousy ~1700ppd on a Duo. So far I'm loving the new WUs, the mix between the 1680s and the 420s are great and narrow the ppd average nicely. Gav's working on a HWC members deal soon I read. maybe some nice folding cards will make it into the list. Heres hoping

Grats zlojack on hitting 1 million today. The first of many I'm sure.

Thanks! I just realized that when I checked it this morning!

I see 4DoorGTZ is on a tear. He should be hitting the top of the PPD charts pretty soon!

That's what you get for using your computer for things other than folding

Lets hope those deals have a GTX+ in there....

@zlojack: Congrats man! You have been a folding monster the past weeks!
