So did you leave the metal casing off the card or did you piece it back together completely? Nice achievement nonetheless... :)

Was a bit dejected today after finding out the 9800gt I bought won't work alongside my 260 folding so I sorta took the day off. Played my brains out with some Dawn of War2 and watched a movie on the computer. Suprisingly I'm on track to do 5k. ouch there goes my average. It's my Bday on the 23rd so I think I'm going to sell this 9800gt and...wait for it..wait..Yes my cherrie 260 black edition..omg I can't believe I said that..

Looking at a GTX295. But I'm unsure if you can fold with both cores at the same time. I haven't been able to find to much info on this card yet.

*Edit A few posts at stanford guys are getting 14k stock and newer drivers on 64bit..but they have 17s and my CPU is just a lowely dual core. hrmm maybe 15k with an average OC and some ghetto cooling. ahh 240 shader process (unified) wtf does unified mean?

You can definately fold on both core, it's setup like a regular multi-gpu rig. The one quirk is unlike a GX2 , with 295 the HDMI is used for the second output.

IIRC it's B_A_Hines that Folds with one on the Team, he plugged both the DVI and HDMI into his monitor, maybe check with him...

Good job Nademon! You were getting some good points up there...would have hated to see them drop. Some good TIM is def the way to go!

@prof.dr.silver - I fully reassembled it with the metal case which is why I was so surprised at the temp drop. Does it sound right that the temps would drop 12-13C just from changing the TIM? I'm elated that it did, but I'm also scratchin my head a bit because that just sounds too good to be true.

As for EUE's, kind of a mixed bag. Seems it didn't EUE all night on either core, but about 30 mins ago GPU1 finally EUE'd again. Maybe just a bad WU, so I'll know more by tonight and post back.

You'd be suprised what really crappy TIM application/type can do.
When I got the Test Rig Donated to me, it had that Thick Grey stuff all over it. Hooked it up to CoreTemp and sure enough it was Idling at 39 Degrees in my Basement (its 19 Ambient down there).
So, I pulled it all apart, cleaned it with Alcohol till it was shiny like new, then put a little bit of OCZ Freeze on there and Voila, 26 Degrees Idle.
So, yeah thats a roundabout way of saying CRAP TIM can really do bad things.

Ya ST, I've had similar experiences with changing TIM, but I figured they must have known the 9800GX2 was an blast furnace and if all it takes is TIM to make such a marked improvement..well I just don't understand the logic. I mean good TIM isn't exactly that expensive and it makes such a huge difference.

Your logic makes perfect sense, and yet even with HSF vendors, you spend up to $100 on a high end aircooler and get a ketchup packet of unknown thick TIM as well.
Sometimes, I don't think the marketing dept thinks this stuff through.

UPDATE:

After letting the GX2 run all night folding on both cores, my temps have stabalized another 1-2C lower. Now hovering around 81-82C and my ambients are currently 3-4C warmer than last night (kinda warm here today). Amazing difference! Also, seems like it's not getting as many EUE's so maybe the temps are making a difference..only time will tell. And thx ST! You're the man!

Wow...I really do need to get me one of those cards.

Then I'd have to step up to the EVGA Classified and use my 9800GT for PhysX and folding
