yeah, but multiple AC units running 24/7 gets more expensive than just running the boxes themselves.

Sometimes with folding I keep feeling it's just a repeat of "I hope I get the good units today".

My quad gets about 2 a week and my SR-2 seems to be getting them all.

Sometimes they come more often to -bigbeta, sometimes to -bigadv flag "wearers".

It can be entertaining and frustrating at the same time. C'est la vie.

I'm going to avoid the 'dedicated -bigadv unit rig' ...I'm waiting on sandybridge-e which will do it , but the boxen will all be GPU.

Well to not thread-jack Lee's post... I'll start a mini-thread here.

Well it looks like you lot have dragged me deeper into this computer game with crap graphics and extreme hardware demands

What used to be my gaming rig looks like it'll be just a way to get me another 6500 PPD:
AMD Phenom 9950 (2nd gen 125W)
Gigabyte MA770-UD3
2x2GB OCZ Platinum DDR2 PC2-6400 5-4-4
Seasonic M12 600W
Radeon 3650 (will remove GPU and go headless once I get all the remote stuff stable)
WD Caviar SE16 160GB IDE
OpenSUSE 11.4 64 bit (no GUI)
I haven't even gotten all the updates for the OS and I already have the thing folding. In the morning I'll stop the Folding to install Prime and stresscpu2 to OC the computer to the edge of stability or the limit of the VRMs. Maybe I'll luck out a little more than my last OC attempt because I equipped an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro of which the strange mounting scheme puts a low pressure zone between the CPU and VRM. I never liked this particular combo of mobo + CPU, so I don't plan on doing my usual conservative OCing

The addition of this inefficient rig (CPU whose heat generation is rivaled only by Pentium D + PSU that isn't in it's best efficiency zone) completely shatters the F@H power consumption bubble I've been keeping since 2008 (350W). My BluePlanet is reading 480W out of the wall for my main + this additional folder. As I watch another one of my limits disappear, I wonder how far the craze will take me

480 from the wall? Damn... rig in sig pulls 490 under full load...

And on the subject of 6903s and 6904s: are you still out there? There is a very capable rig waiting just for you!
