My two GTX 285s are starting to produce some nice points. I imagine that during the week their PPD will be nice and high since I'm not at home to mess around on the rig

ATI Radeon 4870X2 2GB ~ 3800
ATI Radeon 4870 512MB ~ 3800
ATI Radeon 4850 512MB ~ 3200
ATI Radeon 3870X2 ~ 2000
ATI Radeon 3870 ~ 2000
ATI Radeon 3850 ~ 2000
ATI Radeon 3650 ~ 750
ATI Radeon 2600 ~ 700
ATI Radeon 2400 ~ 240
I folded with a single 4850 for 3 months and these numbers seem pretty average but they can fluctuate +/- 20% depending on project.
I noticed that ATI cards use more CPU but you can multitask better in windows while your card is folding as there is far less 2D slowdown than Nvidia cards.
Overclocking with ATI cards has a very minimal gain in ppd. Shaders are locked so you have to overclock the core to see gains in the shaders, also the shader technology is different and isn't fully utilized by the current clients(or maybe it's the video drivers *shrug)
The ATI cards are supposed to do a better job with the larger WUs than they do with the smaller ones. As these WUs get bigger we are supposed to see the gap narrow a bit between ATI and nVidia on current generation hardware. If nVidia can get the shader count up on their next generation then that gap may not narrow as much as the WUs get bigger.
Wow , that's quite the difference between the 3650 and 3850........I guess I'll look more at the 38's......38's use more juice tho.......might need PSU upgrades.
hmmmm......
Anybody have any idea what the power consumption of a 3850 is ? I'm told the 3650 is a 40 watt card.
This talk about power consumption has got me thinking, how much more power do you think is used during folding with an 8800gt, then say just my Q6600 system idling? I guess what I am asking is how much power does the video card use folding vrs idling?
Some ideas on power consumption for each of the cards is included in the excel spreadsheets I linked to above. At the bottom there is a "PPD$" tab which shows the wattage for all the cards while folding. Ie. the 8800GT 512mb card uses 78 watts while folding, according to the cart. It does not include idle watts but its a start.
