How risky do you think it would be to run 2 8800GTs on a 500W PSU if only for a month or two?

Stoanee is really crawling up my ass now and I've got to do *something*, haha

It should be able to do it easily, as long as it's a decent quality unit.

My Fairhaven rig with dual GTX+'s and an OC'd quad only pulls ~370w's from my UPS and that's with both cards Folding the WU"s. Factor in the efficiency loss and that means it's only drawing ~315w from the PSU and that's a worst case scenario.

Good Luck with Stoanee...

Think I've got both cards dialed in pretty well now... should be putting out 12K - 13K starting today. :)

(I want back on the top 20 list so that it's easy to click on my account!!!! :) )

I think that running 4 Vmware instances may be a tad too much in CPU resources, especially when using dual - and triple - GPU Clients. I shut down 1 VMware client on both rigs, and the GPU ppd shot to the sky - 9533 / 9433 (353s) and 7008 ( 511s) for the 275s, 6224 / 6174 ( 511s) for the 260s.

Much better. The loss of ~4400 ppd from the CPU Clients actually helps in overall usage and lower CPU temps. But that loss is cut down by 90% with the increase in ppd from the GPU Clients...

I thought that your cpu clients might have been affecting your GPU PPD a bit, and yes, having one core idle should make a fairly big difference to overall temps when compared to having everything running 100% 24/7.

I did a fair amount of playing around when I initially set up to run Rosetta on cpu cores paired with the FAH GPU client, and found that there was a big drop in GPU PPD when I didn't allow for some overhead on the CPU usage. In the end I decided it was easiest to just allow for a full core dedicated to whatever the GPU needed.

I still need to look at setting affinities on both rigs, but I'll let these go for a week or so to ensure that they're 100% stable in this configuration.

I ended up pegging the fan speed on the 8800 up to 55%, but it looks like that's given me enough headroom for an OC that's putting out 5600 PPD on the 768 WUs. I was never happy with the bios fan speeds on that card... they start out at 37% and don't kick in until somewhere over 80c which might be fine for the GPU, but I don't think it provides enough airflow for the rest of the card components.

We are going downhill because the F@H contest has ended and members are going back to their original teams. PPD stands for Points-Per-Day.
Welcome to the Fold.

Actually.... if you increase the view on that chart to weekly, you'll see that we're still way ahead of where were were mid April when the contest started.

On another note... I might have another PPD surprise to pull out of my rear end this afternoon.....
