Good choice. You may hit more than 6000 ppd though. Both my 280s do 8000ppd, and my 9800GT does 5700...

Raise the fan speed to 60% using Rivatuner, and oc the shaders until you have the Unstable machine message. Or surf the 'net looking for stable 260GTX oc'ed settings, and use the oc'ed shader setting. That's what I did for both my 280s. After 1 week of folding I raised the shaders again and saw no ppd difference.

Don't forget to clean the Ati drivers properly...

The 260 is installed and done. They will probably get the issues sorted out that caused my 4870 to EUE but I'll get a lot extra PPD out of this card. Default shader is 1242mhz and I saw people getting 1500 easy. I'll let a few WUs go through on stock first. FAHmon is showing 6000ppd on this first project (a little better than the 3700 my 4870 was getting). If I can get a good price on my 4870 I'll sell it, otherwise I might keep it for a little in case Stanford releases a core that makes full use of the card (it is my understanding that there is huge potential on the 4870s not tapped in folding yet right?)

Nice to see somebody get serious about Folding, You'll be happy you made the switch. I get ~6430 PPD with my 9800 GTX and 6583 to 6628 with each GTX+, your new baby should good for over 7000 PPD easy .
You might want to keep the 4870 in case stanford comes out with the big WU's they have been promising. The Nvidia cards are better with the small WU's available right now because the ATI cards get CPU bottlenecked and never get to use all thier processors effectively.

Thanks again guys. I was getting 6000ppd earlier this evening, but then I think Boinc was using the same core as the gpu client (even though I had specified 75%). PPD went to somewhere around 2000. I have suspended Boinc to see if the PPd will rise again, but so far it has been sitting at the mid to high 4000s...I'll let it work without Boinc for the evening. I do have the shaders running at 1343mhz (100 over default), and temps are 56c for the gpu core. Did manage to get this rig to complete some WUs for the first time in days.

@3.0: Used control panel driverand cleaner.net to get rid of the Ati stuff. I did not look at Sky's article on this recently but tried to remember how he suggested and I think I did it right.

Setting BOINC to use only 75% of the CPU, just like you did should work. I did that for my 2 Quads, which leaves 1 core for Fah.

I let BOINC use 100% of the processors and 96% CPU time, it seems to work well...

Thats the funny thing...Setting Boinc at 75% worked until I put in the nVidia card. My gpu seems to cool down when Boinc cuts in, and my ppd drastically goes down as well. I turn Boinc off and the gpu gets and stays hot and my ppd rises again. Only playing with this last night and this am before work so I'll play around with it again tonight if I can spare some time.

I found it took a full night of tweaking to get the mix right on my Q6600 and finally settled on two cores boincing, 1+ core for gpu, and filled the rest of the 4'th core with the standard console FAH.
