CES 2017: ASUS Updates ROG GT51 Gaming Desktop with Kaby Lake
Bringing new and more powerful components to a proven design, the ROG GT51CH is ready to handle all of your gaming needs. As you may remember
, ASUS introduced the ROG GT51 gaming desktop at last year's CES. It was a beast of a computer featuring a Core i7-6700K processor and up to a pair of GeForce GTX TITAN X graphics cards in SLI. Technology has obviously moved forward since then, and as a result the ROG team has just announced an updated model dubbed the ROG GT51CH.
This refreshed ROG gaming desktop now features a Core i7-7700K Kaby Lake
along with a GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card, 8GB of DDR4 system memory, a 256GB M.2 SATA solid state drive, a DVD burner, and onboard 802.11ac Wi-Fi connectivity. If any of that is unsufficient, and you have deep pockets, you can max out the GT51CH with two GeForce GTX 1080 graphics cards in SLI, up to 64GB of RAM, and even two 512GB M.2 PCI-E SSDs in RAID 0. If that is not still enough power, the ROG-exclusive Aegis III application lets gamers boost processor speed to 4.8GHz, overclocks the graphics cards, and even enables Intel XMP technology for a 17% jump in memory performance. While fast-paced visuals are great, sound is important too, and those audio duties are handled by an onboard solution that features a very high quality ESS SABRE HiFi DAC and amplifier.
The awesome looking 50-pound case still features a cyclone-style intake that leads to a dedicated air tunnel, which should help cool components. There are also AURA lighting effects thanks to RGB LEDs mounted on both the front air intake and the motherboard.
The ASUS ROG GT51CH will be available Q2 2017, but the pricing for the various configurations has yet to be announced.

Intel Core processors enable blazing-fast gaming performance
The 7th Generation Intel Core processor provides ROG GT51CH with unprecedented levels of gaming and multi-tasking performance. GT51CH has the processing power to run the latest games at ‘Ultra’ graphics settings and play 4K UHD videos easily. The latest Intel Core processors not only provide a significant performance boost over the previous generation, they are also more energy efficient.
ROG GT51CH supports up to NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1080 2-way SLI graphics to generate stunning
4K UHD gaming worlds. In product development tests, the GT51CH performed 60% better than a GeForce GTX 980 SLI-equipped system. It was able to run Watch Dogs 2 at ‘Ultra’ graphics settings in 4K UHD at frame rates averaging 66fps.
Processor, graphics card and memory overclocking with Aegis III
The ROG-exclusive Aegis III application lets gamers overclock the processor, graphics card and memory for an added performance boost. Turbo Gear triggers full-core overclocking to boost processor speed to 4.8GHz, and it also overclocks one of the GTX 1080 graphics cards. System memory can be overclocked too, with Intel XMP technology providing a 17% jump in performance.
Aegis III lets gamers track CPU/memory use, and download and upload status. It also allows gamers to control fan speeds and lighting effects, and automatically warns gamers if the system exceeds temperature or voltage thresholds.
Light it up with ASUS Aura
ROG GT51CH features dynamic ASUS Aura lighting effects for its central air intake and motherboard-mounted LEDs. Gamers can customize Aura in up to 8 million different colors to reflect the feel of the game that is currently being played, or to show their own unique style.
ESS SABRE HiFi DAC and amplifier for audiophile-grade audio
The ESS SABRE headphone digital-to-analog converter and amplifier provide a high dynamic range while delivering improved bass and less noise in its rich 32-bit/384kHz sound output. This provides gamers with rich in-game audio with greater detail and less distortion.
