CES 2017: Kingston Unveils World's First 2TB USB Flash Drive

by MAC     |     January 4, 2017

With 2TB of storage, a USB 3.1 interface, and a metal body, this flash drive might render external hard drives obsolete...for those who can afford it.

When it comes to the flash memory market, if you aren't pushing the boundaries someone else will. With this in mind, Kingston have just announced the world's largest USB large drive. Topping out at a whopping 2TB, the new DataTraveler Ultimate Generation Terabyte (GT) series will allow users to hold an unprecedented amount of data in the palm of their hand. These high-end flash drives will feature a zinc-alloy metal body with a retractable element that hides and protects the USB connector. We have no specifics with regard to performance, but Kingston are claiming USB 3.1 Gen 1 (better known as USB 3.0) transfer speeds.

There is also a 1TB version available for those with more modest portable storage needs, or just a smaller bank account. Speaking of which, no word yet on what pricing will be, but you better start saving your pennies since that much flash memory is never cheap.
