The GTX 480’s Heatsink

When we first opened the heatsink shroud to have a look at what’s inside, the first thought that came to our minds was: WOW. The reason NVIDIA chose to put exposed heatpipes on this cooler is because they needed all the space that could be spared for the massive fin array. There are also two more large heatpipes that you can’t see which brings the total to 6.

NVIDIA also uses a slightly bevelled face to the heatsink itself in order to channel the air from the fan over all of the fins. There is also a unique full-length secondary heatsink that runs the entire length of the card which is used to channel heat away from the VRMs and memory modules.
