HD2600 XT vs. the Competition (on paper)

When looking at our reference-based HD2600 XT engineering sample, you can see that it stacks up very nicely against its closest competition in the Nvidia 8600GT and 8600GTS. Indeed, there is not one category (on paper) where the Nvidia cards nose ahead of their AMD competition. It is very interesting to see that the HD2600-series have nearly FOUR TIMES the number of stream processors than the 8600-series. While it looks good on paper, this may not (unfortunately) give the ATI cards a heads-up on the competition.

An area in which the HD2600-series really shines is that of HD content possibilities. All of ATI’s mainstream products are HDCP compatible and have the HD2600-series come standard with the HDMI dongle. In their stock forms, neither the 8600GT nor the GTS is HDMI-ready and the GT is not HDCP complaint.
