Good how too - One comment however.....

Before step 1) - Add a step were the user releases the current IP address from the machine (ipconfig /release). Reason being that some ISP's still tie the IP address to the MAC address and with out a release you need to call them to get it released and request a new one.

another added bonus to network is to use a UPS on modem and router for some devices don't keep data on power failure

My System Specs


Using a networking device that will keep it's config stored in NVRAM is much more cost effective. Just about any cheapo router you can buy today has enough flash memory to store your config.
