side panel window mod - flimsy acrylic sheets? interested in adding a window to my side panel. currently looking for clear sheets to buy - a local art shop has some, there's also home hardware, etc. i went to the local art shop and they had acrylic sheets (plexiglass), and i noticed that it is rather quite flimsy. the thinner sheets bend like rubber (a little tougher than rubber), but is nothing close to what a computer case side panel window is like. is this just because of the thickness of the sheet? or are there different types of sheets with different "toughness"? i am looking to mimic normal case side panel windows, and don't think those flimsy sheets will do the job. what acrylic sheets should i be looking for? thanks very much in advance! |
1/8" plexi IMO, should be strong but cheap. |
+1 and check out glass shops very good prices, plus they have cut bin even cheaper |
priced out clear plexi @ rona awhile back $14 for a 10x20 sheet i believe it was, ya still gotta do a demil & crap as well ... |
1/8" is pretty thick isn't it? My current one on my ase now is not that thick I think.. I thought maybe a different type of material for the rigidness..? They are all same? |
1/8" is around 3mm, not that thick. |
Oh. In that case the 1/8in plexiglas is pretty flimsy - wobbles quite a bit. Is that normal? Or am I looking at the wrong item. Does anyone have experience with home depot optix acrylic? I've not seen it in person, but are those sturdy at 1/8in or are they all the same? Thanks. |
Clear & Colored Computer Case Windows That's what you want to look for, and as i said, 1/8" is what you want :p |
Hi tragd, I used 1/8" Lexan for my window, glued in but double sided tape in strips would be the same, there is basically no flex in panel. I buy all my acrylic from Speedy Glass. |
Quick question, what did you use to cut your side panel? I'm thinking about putting a window in my case. |
