My DVD reincode is Huge
I am trying to learn how to rip and convert dvds into good quality AVI files that have the same Volume as a Normal AVI , meaning that when ever I have downloaded a TV ep that is either HD or in the .mkv formate I have to really turn up the volume on my TV .

I am using TMPGEnc I mounted, loaded the ISO file and then went into preferences and in the input/output format list I selected AVI ,( I actually don't really know what to do) now I look at the left bottom side and it shows
Video: x264vfw-H264/MEPG-4 AVC codec (X264),
Audio Uncompressed PCM
what am I doing wrong that makes this DVCD go from a 4gb size to over a 11gb size?

you audio is uncompressed.

Shadowmeph July 10, 2011 07:57 PM

what do I use to compress the audio?

LarkStarr July 10, 2011 08:08 PM

TMPGEnc should compress it. Pick a compression format... I'm not sure what your choices are.

LarkStarr July 10, 2011 08:12 PM

also, what bitrates are you setting? I'm assuming you're keeping DVD resolution?

try Handbrake also, is easier to use and more graphical. and scales very well on multicore cpu. just what the doctor ordered for your quad.

i would keep it an mkv file, xvid and avi are slowly dying.

Personally I'd use handbrake. Extremely easy to use interface.

MKV is just a container, like AVI. The actual compression format is still independant of the container, though there are pros and cons to using each one.

Handbrake is also, Win.

I used to use handbrake but have forgotten how to use it lol I guess I will figure it out.
as for the .mkv format ,when ever I have played that format the volume is always so low compared to avi which is why I have been playing around with the avi format.
