ah ok SO I downloaded the nightly build of Handbreak and on the advanced audio tab it has audio gain which is great.
funny things is now I transcoded the same video with the same settings eccept that one I made .mkv and the other I made .m4v they seem to look and sound exactly the same but the file sizes are different.
The .mkv file size is 584,855KB and the m4v is 584,696. I know that this isn't a huge amount but what is the difference between .mkv and .m4v besides the size?

It could be just container metadata, or a different compression run?

..does it matter? XD
