My System Specs

Default The Evil Within ridiculous specs required

SOURCE: The System Requirements Within | Bethesda Blog

This is ridiculous here are the specs for "optimal" play:

64-bit Windows 7/Windows 8
i7 with four plus cores 4 GBs RAM
50 GB of hard drive space*
GeForce GTX 670 or equivalent with 4GBs of VRAM
High Speed Internet Connection
Steam account and activation
The problem is the video card, 4 GB of VRAM, barely any cards carry 4 GB....

Nothing ridiculous there sounds like a normal high end gaming machine. Are you forgetting Crysis? Nobody was able to play that at a decent setting for a few years.

I dont think that is ridiculous at all. Those specs are actually a 2 year old top of the line PC.

Optimal may even mean "Best". Most people never play on best. Does it give a resolution for 'Optimal'? Specs usually dont mean jack and sh...Simply because resolutions end up mattering more then PC specs for the majority of us.

And still requires a top of the line GPU which not everyone can afford. I know the game won't use 4 GB of it but this is exaggerated.

Then again it could be a horrible port.

You can buy R9 270x adapters with 4GB of RAM for a fairly low price, in the low to mid $200.00 range, and should provide 85% of the speed of a GTX 670. While I agree that this requirement is a bit on the high side, it seems to be par for the course these days.

We should expect that PC games would require hardware that's about double the cost of a console. Now if a $1000 PC with the proper parts doesn't provide an equal if not better experience than the PS4 version. Then yes this is probably a bad port. But more ammunition as to why so many people prefer consoles. And it's not always because they're poor.

Keep in mind that system hardware recommendations are relative. What resolution are they expecting? And are they factoring in max AA that you don't need? I guarantee you don't specifically need an 'i7' to run it. And a decent GPU 'around' the 670 (2GB) mark will likely play it fine. And OC'ing your older gear won't have been factored in... Those spec release numbers are more 'CYA' numbers than anything else.

Sadly the blog never stated how they tested the game out, so perhaps it's full AA and above 1080p (1440 perhaps) I hope so since if it's anything less then wtf...

You'd think that recommended meant "1080/60fps at High details with 2xAA"

Then again standards~
