What RPG games are good? With a good story etc? A game that will keep you playing...?

Any games in the scense of old Final Fantasy 3?

I'd be interested to know about some FF feel game.

Though I have to +1 the ME franchise, which I completed this week. Quite interesting.

Penny Arcade 4 was stylized specifically with FFVI/III in mind. I can't say if you should play the others first or not, I don't know enough about them.

There's a PSN game called 'Dragon Fantasy Book II' that's supposed to be a 16-bit style RPG, but it got ho hum reviews if I remember correctly.

Anacrhonax is the next closest one I can think of.

Steam also has FF VII and VIII for PC available now. Finally Square's 'The Last Remnant' is also on there (but is pretty 'meh' according to reviews, and certainly won't feel old school).

There's quite a few RPG Maker games and freeware games that are supposed to easy to track down that are 'FFVI'-ish, but I've never played them myself.

Witcher 2, Dragon age origins if you are partial to fantasy
Skyrim if you like open world make your own story fantasy
Fallout 3 or New Vegas if you like survival sci-fi My favourites
Mass Effect for sci-fi

If you want turn based games there is Shadow Run Returns, and Blackguards is on steam in Beta and it looks interesting. The Banner Saga releases Jan 14.

As for something like ff3, I think you would probably be better off looking at grabbing some ps1/2 games off ebay and emulating them.

I'd toss in a recommendation for Gothic I and II if you're looking for a late 90/early 00's RPG. If you're looking for another type of D&D type game Spiderweb has put out a lot. I can't say that they're my style, but they do have a following.

Final Fantasy XIV - a realm reborn might be of interest, but it's a MMORPG.

The other final fantasy's have been quite linear as of late.
