Yeah, I think $150 plus a sound card is too much for a teen age gamer.
@GregH thanks for the info re the G35. It is price in my ballpark.

I just use the Supreme FX on my MB. 7.1. I can hear the footsteps just fine. Yes, a discrete card is superior. But unnecessary for gaming imo. Buy a dedicated card for music in the future if you want.

The Tiamats are for gaming, they don't do that well with bass in music. Something you might want to think about if you use your PC for any kind of serious music listeneing.
