Sounds like they're going to announce a controller or some kind of peripheral on Friday judging by the last part of today's post. Maybe something to do with the Occulus Rift?

I for one would be excited for Steam OS if they can make it so you don't have to use a mouse and keyboard at all.

For example in order to get into steam you need a mouse and having a mouse to use at your couch isn't that great of an experience.

It would also be great if Steam OS included other apps like netflix and media streaming. It would be very sweet for a HTPC.

I'm pretty sure the big picture was already geared towards using a controller so I suspect they'd want to continue along that vein.

Yeah no games coming, it'll be a controller or something tomorrow.

I'm sort of disapointed to see that there is no actual showing off of anything. A lot of talk about SteamOS but no actual footage of it. At the moment its a lot of talk and not much else really.

I'm still trying to grapple with if this is good or bad for PC gaming. Microsoft went the console route once and then completely forgot about the PC

The main difference would be the fact that steam's vision is based on non-proprietary hardware / software which accentuates the positive points of PC gaming as opposed to a closed system.

At the very least if devs jump on board it will save you from having to buy a windows license.

That is a very interesting idea, I can't see anything but good things coming from this. Makes me glad I didn't build a steambox yet, but buying one from newegg/etc, doesn't seem my style. We'll see.

All they need to succeed is an OS that will let you play ALL steam games and if you want you can use just a gamepad to do everything in the OS. If you can only play Linux games this will be a failure.

What I'll also be watching to see is if this OS is exclusively big picture mode or if it is something that will be navigable with a mouse and keyboard

Being able to play ALL my Windows games streamed from my main pc to the TV downstairs over the network is a huge plus for me. Whether every game gets ported to Linux won't matter if I can choose where to play them without downloading and installing them twice.
