Default Best Gaming Chat Software

Curious what people recommend and if purchased who do you recommend to get it from.

I'm hoping to game and chat with the guys I'm gaming with to stop from being bored as well as improve the overall game play experience. I use to use Ventrilo quite a bit but curious what is best out there now.

I know these are some of the ones available

Ventrilo Ventrilo - Surround Sound Voice Communication Software
Mumble Mumble.com | Mumble Server Hosting
TeamSpeak 3 TeamSpeak 3 Servers
RaidCall RaidCall-100% FREE Group Communication Software- IM, Group Communication and Voice Chat
Skype Skype - Free internet calls and cheap calls to phones online
Steam Welcome to Steam
-----------------

Will add more as they come in.

We use Teamspeak even when playing Steam games, as many tend to cut out while the game is loading things- when you have a moment for general chat.

I used Ventrilo all the time back in my Day of Defeat: Source days. Fairly simple to setup and easy to use. I have no idea what's good these days since I don't game as often now.

When the fiancée and I game in separate rooms I run a Vent server on my pc with the audio quality cranked up high. I've always sort of preferred vent (even when connecting to a server) over say mumble and Skype as you tend to not be able to manually adjust what volume of other people, which can be a pain if they are very quiet or very loud. Yes I know there is calibrations but I never find they work very well.

+1 for Teamspeak, but I've never ran a server with it.
Skype is good too especially if someone is not gaming but still wants to chat. Not sure about PTT with it tho, might be full time open mic.

Steam voip is horrendous, at least for me. Plus I think it interferes with games especially if they're steam based games.
Haven't used Mumble in a long while but it was neat with the built in overlay and I think it had positional sound too(?)

PTT works fine with skype, you just enable its in the settings and mute your mic at the beginning of a call.

I don't have a problem using any of them. My favorite, however, is Mumble. Great voice codec and very user friendly.

Teamspeak works great, still totally free for non-comercial use.

I use Skype, because many people have it and it's easier to get my more casual, non-gamer friends into an MP game. Many people just don't like to install and configure something new.
