My System Specs

Default Need advice on Minecraft server

Hey Guys, my son wants a dedicated MC server and previously he was hosting it on my game server (specs below). I want to move his server off my hardware an onto it's own hardware for various reasons. So, I am trying to put together a cheap server for him and I have a few options so far (based on stuff inhouse). OS will be WHS 2011 (which is basically Windows server 2008)

Asus E-450 board (AMD E-450 APU dual core @1.65 Ghz, 2x2 GB DDR3 Ram)

Zotac Mag (Intel Atom 333 dual core @ 1.6 Ghz, 2x2 GD DDRII ram)

Socket 775 G41 mobo with Dual core intel core CPU @ 2.2 Ghz and 2x2 GB DDR3 ram

He is only hosting 5 people on this server and my internet connect is more than adequate SO would any of these hardware configs work? thanks

I ran a dedicated bukkit server on an atom 330 and 1gb of ram on a 100/100 network with torrents running and with 10+ people I wasn't having issues, so whatever your cheapest option would be best.

Perfect! His is a bukkit server as well and the official wiki says you need more power. Was your running on Windows or linux?

Ah Debian uses much fewer resources.

Is this hard to do? I haven't really looked into it but my son has been wanting a server for like 8 months now lol.

Are there any cheap places to get him one that way or is it cheaper just to run one and open the proper ports etc Thanks and sorry if I stole the thread a little bit :(
