Question A10-5800K and gaming

A friend recently asked and I had no experience of it so I thought I'd as here for opinions. He was wondering how good the on-board graphics in an AMD A10-5800K were for gaming?

I have an A10 but have never tried gaming with it.

Thanks.

Well i know someone who owns one,and it's said to be 2x better than intel chipsets, you can expect medium settings on UE3 games and low settings on very demanding games, to stay on the smooth FPS side...

Roughly HD 6670 performance, depending on system memory speed.

Ok, thanks guys. They are currently using a 3GHZ C2D and an HD4870 512K. They'de save some power draw and ehat but wasn't sure if their video would suffer.

I'm using the A10-5800K and playing games. I added the HD6670 "in dual graphics" mode aka crossfired the APU with a HD6670 and am playing racing games like Dirt3, NFS and most recently the orginal GRID. Graphics are fine. I also fly X-Plane and that program is immune to Crossfiring but still I can run with medium to high graphic settings. If you want top end MAX video settings then the APU is probably not what you want. If you are a casual gamer and want reasonable graphics for alot less then the APU is just dandy. There are lots of reviews on line about the A10 and the bottom line seems to be that is is a price point compromise. It won't compete with a $200 graphics card and an 8 core CPU but it does more than an OK job with the games I play without breaking the bank.

also keep in mind the display your using will make a difference. I recently upgraded my media center pc to an A10-6800K which is only a slight improvement over the 5800k if any really. Reason I upgraded to so I could run steam in big picture mode and play a few games with a 360 controller in the comfort of my couch, nothing extreme since I have a gaming PC.

I'm running it on my 32" TV which is only 720p and a lot of the reviews I found they were running at 1080p and concluding that it's just playable, but I've been running Need for speed shift at high detail without any issue at 720p as well as shift 2, ridge racer, and a few other racing titles. I've been quite pleased. I haven't tried to play skyrim or anything like that, but for that one I don't think I'd expect to run much more than low-medium detail.

It all depends what you want, they're a decent balance of cpu/gpu performance in my opinion and if you're not a hardcore gamer, I'd imagine it could do just fine

FYI my A10 runs three monitors through Eyefinity at 4800x900.
