Default UT2004 firewall conflict with VirtualBox
Hey all,

Last night I was gifted UT2004 on steam and when I tried to join game to see the server browser, it said attention firewall bla bla game is not authorized. I double checked the game was allowed in Windows Firewall and it was. Took me a while to figure this out but I read something about virtual box. I uninstalled vb and the game then worked. I need VB installed so im not sure what exactly is conflicting. Any ideas?

not sure why UT2004 would conflict with Virtual box.

is it just having Vbox installed that causes the conflict, or is it when you have a VM running?

Its not so much a firewall conflict. VB installs and setups up as a NAT which is giving you the grief. Do you need the networking VB? If so then try setting it up in bridged mode.

all I use VB for is testing and trying out different OS. Not really sure how to set up in bridge.

well I am not sure of that because vb should make its own network all together at least on any Microsoft operating system that I have used.

Ya I'm lost myself. I can have vb installed but I have turn off windows firewall to play it.

these are all of the prots that need to be opened for UT2004 7777-7788, 27900, 42292 both tcp and udp

Tried that already no luck :(

I dont think its the router, something in windows firewall tied to vb is causing it.

I haven't heard it messing up server browser but I know VirtualBox's networking functions does mess up the LAN game feature of UT2004 and Borderlands (1). I'm thinking the game panics when it tries to scan the Virtualbox network, but I haven't had a chance to play with VirtualBox + LAN games in a while.
Did you try disabling (or not installing) the network adapters that VirtualBox creates? (e.g. VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter.)
