Here is a thread detailing some of those fixs.
Some Can't Slot Bridge Officers as of 2/14/13 (zone to a new map for workaround) - Page 37 - Star Trek Online

If you have hit Lv 40 ( or plan to) hit me up in chat, I have a shit ton of VA shipboxes if you want a MU Ship. Main toons Name is in the top of the thread, or just leave off "Storm" and do @supergroverohpc that way if I am on a alt toon I'll get it.

Personally if you quit when you hit 50 your going to miss doing elite STF's witch means you wont get any of the nice item sets or end game weaponry. If you are looking for a fleet, your going to need to be in a large fleet if you want the high end Fleet gear and ships since most small fleets wont hit T5, most small wont hit T3 in thier lifetime, feel free to head over to the {UFP}. One of the largest and most well known fleets in STO or any Star Trek game, they can be pretty ST techie but there is plenty of non-ST Techies in the fleet.

Open the calendar and see when Mirror Universe Incursion is on, it is a one hour window once or twice a day, Fastest single mission for leveling. In a hour , depending on my starting rank ( lower ranks level faster since the experience needed is lower and goes up with your level) I level 9-3 levels per hour on a toon.

Keybinding: Key binds - Star Trek Online Wiki Thats just the basic document, at the bottom of the page is the link to advanced keybinds.
Here is another Keybind guide Done by A buddie Dark:{UFP} The United Federation of Planets

I use my Mouse's software and KB over keybinds within STO, STO keybind do not allow a 1 button press and have multiple powers/skills activate. For instance I use a G600 and have bound Distribute shields to a button with a loop and 25ms delay, this means that toogling the button my shield are constantly being distributed to the 4 facings, STO keybinds cant/wont do that. The other handy bind is Alpha Strike, this sets off all myAlpha striking ability's one after another with 1 button press, so line up a target hit my Alpha strike button as I close, once all the powers have activated then fire.

This looks interesting. Think I'll give it a look.
Any suggestions for a newb? Server selection? Class selection? Other selection?

I used to do simple keybinds in Enemy territory and COD which I found inside the games dir but STO doesn't have anything that I can find. I am a very slow and very mistake ridden typer in game play lol which is why I am usually a lone wolf in games hehe

DPS is king in STO so I would say go with a TAC for your first char, server doesnt matter since STO operates on a Instance format.
Escorts will be easier to level with ( and funner to play at first) since they have the better turnrates and can equip Heavy cannons. For traits ( toon creator will prompt you for what traits you pick) I say Leadership and efficient. If you go Alien you actually will be able to pick traits that you wouldnt as a specific race. Here details Trait builds: Guide: Suggested trait builds - Star Trek Online Wiki
As you level up and complete different story arcs you will get the ability to transwarp to certain destinations , so cruising around becomes alot easier. Also once you get the Borg engines or MACO or Fleet you gain the ability to travel faster than warp 10, I am at warp 54 in my Vesta, this was my biggest caveat is the travel time between areas/sectors when low level.
Hit me up ( ingame name is in one of the first posts ) if you do and I'll answer any ?'s in chat. You have to manually enter my name IIRC I am set so I dont show under auto-complete.
See you in space.

Well I made it through the tutorial. :)

I selected Human for default traits of Leadership and teamwork and for the optional I selected Astrophyscist and Creative and will play around with that.
My ship is a light cruiser and I don't remember where I selected that as I wanted escort... Ill create another new character and take him through the tutorial again and see where I missed that.

Game must be old. I play LOTRO online and it is 6 years old so I can live with dated graphics if the story is good.
Need to get used to the combat in space but any new game needs some experience to get the feel for it.

I've been playing and while I like the game some thigs are difficult for me to figure out.

The economy and deciding what to sell and buy is difficult but that will come over time.

What is really giving me a headache is navigation. How do I find people or star systems is driving me up the wall. A quest will tell me to go see someone to do something and it takes forever to figure out where it is... I'm currently looking for "Memory Alpha" and it's a PITA. Even the wikis are very little help. The mini map is a mess IMO as everything is all crammed together is a small area and mousing over is just plain difficult.

On the bright side I picked up a 3D monitor and nVidia 3D vision yesterday amd plan to play STO with that some more tonight.
